What is AWANA?

Awana is an international, nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization providing clubs and programs for 3 year olds through high school. The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of the phrase “Approved workmen are not ashamed” (II Timothy 2:15).

Chime Bell Baptist has been registered with AWANA since 2008 and provided Awana clubs for many Aiken children over the years. After a break during the Covid era, started our program again on September 11, 2022.

When is Awana and what happens at Awana?

Awana meets weekly every Sunday during the school year, from 5:00 to 6:45pm at Chime Bell Baptist Church.

Kickoff for the 2022-2023 school year will be on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 5:00pm.

Each club meeting is comprised of the following segments:

  1. Handbook Time – This is the main segment where clubbers learn a Bible lesson and use their Awana club handbooks to learn a Bible lesson and record achievements.

  2. Game Time – Games on the Awana Games Square (for Cubbies this is inside, for everyone else this is in on the front lawn of the church).

  3. Group Closing Time – Segment where entire club meets together for announcements, award presentations, singing, a Bible message. Five-minute segment including team awards and prayer.

Children and youth who participate in Awana are encouraged to memorize God’s Word, enjoy healthy competition and win awards.

Who can attend Awana?

Children and youth ages 3 through high school can attend Awana. The following groups correspond to the different ages:

  • Cubbies (ages 3 and 4) celebrates the spiritual potential of preschoolers by helping them to develop respect for God, His Son and His Word.

  • Sparks (Kindergarten through 2nd grade) ignites the curiosity of early elementary children to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ.

  • T&T (Truth & Training) (3rd through 6th grades) engages upper elementary children by answering their questions about God and the Bible, guiding them through this pivotal life stage to grow in Christ's grace.

  • Trek (middle school) and Journey (high school) accompany your pre-teen and teen through these challenging and opportunity-filled years with God’s Word as their guide and anchor.

Groups may be combined if registration for one age group is low.

What does Awana cost?

The cost for Awana registration includes the cost of the vest, patches and handbook. Cost for the 2022-2023 school year is $30 per child. Parents must register their children in advance to get their vests and materials in time.

Is my child safe at Awana?

It is of utmost importance to us that your child be safe and loved at Awana. All adults serving as leaders or helpers at Awana are known to the pastor and congregation and have provided a criminal background check to the church in advance. Parents are welcome to remain at the church building throughout the Awana program time if they would like.

How and when do I register my child or youth for Awana?

Space is limited and uniforms and curriculum must be ordered in advance.
